Lesson study is an effort to increase the teacher’s competence in conducting the teaching learning process by researching and reflecting the learning process systematically. The objectives oh the lesson study is to improve teachers’ services to the learning needs of students. The essence of the lesson study is doing collaboration by teacher and teacher or teacher and lecturer to observe, examine and reflect the realizing of teaching learning process. The steps of lesson study is preparation (the teacher collaboration to prepare the lesson plan), realizing (the teacher realize the teaching learning process, while the others do observation), reflection dan reform I (the teachers and lecturers) do a discussion, reflection and reform II (the other teacher realize the teaching learning process on the real class, while the others do observation).
Lesson study hold to do innovation education through the reform the teaching learning process. The relevant paradigm such as student centered, constructivist, realistics mathematics, and contextual teaching learning. The innovation through lesson study can be accomplished if the teacher having the character of open to the students, the high commitment of the teacher, developed the infra-system which can support the teaching learning process, it’s the motion of many component of education. The lesson study support school-based curriculum because it guided by the competence achieved by the students. The lesson study need indept-study and developing the curriculum, syllabi, and lesson plan. It can also support the developing the media and learning tools and need student worksheet.
The operational steps of lesson study for example:1. first step, the objectives : the students capable to learn mathematics by theirselves.
2. second step, competence : the students can find the area pf triangle.
3. third step, the activity : the students do an experiment or manipulation the visual aids.
The lesson plan is the backbone of the lesson study because it has characteristics :
1. to serve the student need in the studying
2. to reflect the student’s activity
3. to reflect the various interaction
4. to reflect the various aids
5. to reflect the various methods
6. to draw the scheme of achievement competence
7. to draw the developing assesment
8. lesson plan as the communication tools
9. lesson plan reflect the innovation
10. lesson plan reflect the independence studying
11. lesson plan support the student to working together to study
12. lesson plan completed with supporter document
13. lesson plan always revised
14. lesson plan as experiment aids.
The supporter of lesson study is understanding and implementing the nature of motivation, apperseption, discussion, group discussion, student participant/involment, students construction, and the aim of education : obligation VS need.
Socialization of lesson study consist of publication, involvement the stake holder, lesson study open house, Subject Discussion of Teacher, the commitment of the school/government duty, and also the collaborating with university.
